The fair is held in Piazza del Popolo (Peoples square) the day before the feast of Pentecost. It originated from a medieval joust in which knights tested one another in the capture of geese strung up on a pole and whose head they had to remove: over the last few years naturally without the geese it takes place between the two Cava and Piastrella neighbourhoods of Orvieto.

Corpus Domini
The Corpus Domini festivity was started in 1264 by Urbano IV, after the miracle of Bolsena, with the Bull Transiturus which promulgated the Corpus Domini celebration in the Catholic world. The procession began in 1337. The celebrations are held on the day of Corpus Domini and include religious manifestations and historical commemorations. After exhibition of the reliquiem of the Sacro Lino (Sacred Linen) and solemn mass, a sumptuous procession is accompanied by a magnificent historical parade.

Feast of the Wooden Pigeon Orvieto
Historical-religious commemoration born in the 15th century on the wishes of the Monaldeschi family. It is celebrated on the day of Pentecost. It consists of the representation of the Holy Ghost who descends to the Apostles: a wood pigeon propelled by small rockets, is made to slide down a cable from the top of the church of Saint Francis to the Cathedral square where the Last Supper with the Madonna, and the Apostles, on whose head a flame is lit, is represented. In the past, the result of the wood-pigeons descent predicted the outcome of harvests.
