Umbrian Distillate

The mineral waters

The sources of spring water constitute another extraordinary wealth of the territory of the Province of Terni. Some are famous around the world, others have therapeutical characteristics. A journey along the itinerary of the principal sources known and appreciated since Roman times, leads to the discovery of localities immersed in the green Umbrian hillsides and woods, and relaxation in the parks near the springs, quenching your thirst with their waters.

San Gemini Fountain
The fountain, belonging to the San Gemini Spa, is located at 5 km from the medieval village of San Gemini and about 12 km from Terni.
The fountain park is open from May to October: you pay a fee to enter. San Gemini mineral water, already known in ancient times (the spring in the past was higher up, in the present archaeological area of Carsulae), is slightly carbonic, with calcium salts and scarce chlorine content. It is particularly indicated in the diet of young children, in the treatment of digestive disorders, and disorders of the urinary tract. The hydropathic treatment for 12 days includes the entry fee to the park and costs 40 euros. The park hosts tennis courts, mini-golf course and during the summer season, evening concerts. The bottling plants are just a few hundred metres away along the E45 Road.

The Amerino Spring – Acquasparta
The Amerino Spring, known since ancient times, lies just a few hundred metres below the village of Acquasparta inside a spacious equipped park where, in summer, cultural events and concerts are held. The opening season goes from May to October. A local tradition refers that St. Francis, during one of his numerous pilgrimages in the area, had blessed the water that flowed from the spring. Since then the Amerino Spring has also used the name of “St. Francis Spring” (Terme di S. Francesco).
The therapeutical qualities of the Amerino water are particularly appreciated to improve diuresis, for the elimination of stones, for the treatment of gastroenteric, urinary, hepatic and biliary illnesses. Since the beginning of the 20th century, Acquasparta has been a watering place. A vocation which it still partly conserves today, even though Amerino water is principally destined to be bottled.
