Narni

Under the Fortress, here are the Middle Ages

Dominating everything stands the mighty bulk of the fortress, the castle built by Cardinal Albornoz. Lying below, leaning against its slopes, stretches one of the largest and best-preserved medieval villages in Umbria: Narni, with its towers, its fountains, its Gothic and Romanic churches, where you can live the emotions and the atmosphere of Medieval times which become quite real during the celebration of the Corsa all’Anello (the Ring Contest) between the end of April and the first half of May. At this time, every year, you can watch the knightly jousting and take part in shows and pageants as well as savour Medieval dishes in the taverns. The entire Narni territory offers beauties of this kind: Calvi also offers its village and traditional fetes to the curiosity of visitors.
But the step back continues in Otricoli, where you can visit the remains of one of the most interesting Roman cities in central Italy, with its amphitheatre and river port on the Tiber.
