The Tiber River Park
The great River, with its history. In the middle of its course stands the hill of Todi. To follow: the Forello gorge, the Orvieto fortresses in Prodo and Titignano. Then, towards the Amelia district, the lakes of Corbara and the natural oasis of Alviano, the latter irreplaceable as a refuge for non-migratory and migratory ornithological fauna. All around, fantastic untouched oak and holm-oak woods, and, beside the river, the archaeological testimonies of the Umbrians, the Etruscans, and the Romans; the castles, or their ruins, once belonging to mercenary leaders.
The Regional Park with its almost 8,000 hectares of territory, includes the Tiber river in the middle-lower tract of its course in Umbria for about 50km, through territories significant for their environmental characteristics, cultural, archeological and monumental testimonies.

The Alviano Oasis
The oasis is formed by over 500 hectares of marshes and swamps. It is run directly by the WWF and is a paradise for the water birds that stop here during migration periods. It is open to visitors thanks to a network of paths where huts are positioned, from which it is possible to watch the water birds that reach the number of almost 10,000 during the period between November and December. However, various species (more than 150 including cormorants, coots, wading birds, herons, stilt birds etc..), can be watched in all periods of the year.

The Fossil Forest
The Dunarobba Fossil Forest, between Montecastrilli and Avigliano Umbro, is one of the most important paleontological sites in the world. The still-standing remains of the large trunks, over 5 metres tall, brought to light between the 70s and 80s, form an exceptional testimony of the vegetation existing in this part of central Italy, approximately 2 or 3 million years ago.
These great trees, among which conifers more than 30 metres tall, were found between the end of the middle and upper Pliocene, when, between the Amerini and Martan mountains stretched a vast lake which was given the name “Lago Tiberino”.
A modern, equipped Visitors’ Centre today enables you to improve your knowledge of the forest and take guided walks inside it.
